24ft SUP Christmas tree made of 25000 plastic bottles art installation set up by Cochin Port fraternity at CoPT Walkway in Willingdon Island
Ahead of the ban on SUP (Single Use Plastic) items in the Kerala from Jan 1, 2020, the Port fraternity in Cochin set up a 24ft high Christmas tree installation utilising about 25000 used plastic bottles to spread awareness on the detrimental effects of SUPs and the need to stop using them. The 25k SUP bottles used for the installation were collected from the leading hotels in Willingdon Island and contributed employees of Cochin Port Trust and students of Kendriya Vidyalaya Port Trust during the last month. This shows the frightening magnitude of SUP items accumulated in a small area within a short period.
