Ferry Services

Cochin Port has regular ferry service to various Islands in Lakshadweep. Lakshadweep Administration and Lakshadweep Development Corporation Ltd. is chartering the voyages and issues tickets to passengers. Currently five ships are plying between Cochin and Lakshadweep. There is facility to avail package tour to Lakshadweep for these voyages. These tour packages are arranged by Sports Division of Union Territory of Lakshadweep Adminstration. Fire Fighting Services in Cochin Port Authority

The Fire Service operates 365 days a year, 24 x 7 in three shifts, with a total strength of 87 personnel including Officers and Contract staff.

The team is entrusted with responsibilities for Fire Prevention, Protection and Extinction activities across the Port premises and various Port installations within the Port’s jurisdiction.

Key Functions and Capabilities :

  • Fire protection during handling of IMO-classified cargo (Import/Export) at designated berths.
  • Standby support during bunkering and hot work operations within Port areas.
  • Fire Safety and monitoring during Hazardous cargo handling and De-stuffing operations at the Container Freight Station (CFS).
  • Specialized trained crew for afloat Fire-fighting, Pollution Control, Oil Spill containment and Combat operations.

Equipment and Readiness

  • A modern fleet of Fire fighting appliance including
  • Foam Tenders
  • Multi Purpose Fire Tender
  • DCP Tender

All these Fire Tenders are equipped with long range monitors, pumping devices and portable monitors.

  • Adequate stock of Foam Compound for effective mitigation of Oil based fires.
  • Pollution Response Equipment confirming to Tier-I standards as per NOSDCP, with personnel trained by Indian Coast Guard (ICG).
  • Basic life support (BLS) / Patient Transport Ambulance available for emergency medical response and casualty transport to Port Hospital or other external hospitals.

Fire & Safety Initiatives

The Fire Service of Cochin Port authority provides internships for Fire& safety engineering students and conducts fire safety training for employees and stake holder’s .Internal and external mock drills are carried out as per standards, and proper records are maintained
